A1 Presentation Piece
This is our final A1 presentation piece, we decided that the text looked better fully justified which meant it was a neat block of text, not a rough edge. we also added a few contextual images in the top left corner to add a different perspective to the building not just our interpretation. Over all we're proud of this piece as it showcases all of our skills from drawing to presentation.
Draft of A1 presentation
With our first draft of the A1 presentation sheet we had a group discussion about where we wanted it to go, we drew over what we already had, changing text size and colour, the scale each drawing was at and the positioning. When we had decided we changed what we thought needed changing and then gathered feedback off the groups around us and the tutors so we could make it look even more professional.
Part Two A4 Document
We have to sacrifice some information when compiling all our research onto the A1 piece so anything we can't put onto there is going into separate document, to show all our workings and processes. the A4 document should consist of mainly images with minimal text just to explain our processes, we will use mainly diagrams to get our point across as a hundred words can be described in one image.
End of Part One - Interim Pin-up
As part of our precidents study we had to have work ready for an Intrim pin up, where we recieved critique, advice and guidance from our peers and lecturers. We wrote comments and feedback on post it notes and left them for other groups and they gave comments and feedback for us. Our blog page was also presented and reviewed as part of this process. The pictures of our Pin up are shown below.
The Idea of Bio-realism
This particular approach, of linking man with nature in the process of designing by applying biological and behavioral science to the problems of architecture, Neutra calls ‘Biorealism
Survival Through Design is a striking book of essays in a time of experiment, technology and machine fascination. The enormous effort to truly find ways in order to right the damages of the past and find a ground of ethical criteria on which to adjust technological and scientific advancement toward human good. http://thewinteroffice.net/RNeutra_7.html Neutra's idea of Architecture is to link the needs of the client directly to function of the building, every element of the design is wrapped around the client but perfectly balanced with the form to produce beautiful architecture. |
Part One - Gathering Resources
A selection of Diagrams, Texts and Quotes we have found and gathered within the first week, these are helping to no end as the diagram gives us an idea of the rest of the elevations however we have not traced them, instead we have scaled up the measurement using the one elevation we already had.
The quote gives us an insight into Neutra's psyche and also what he thinks architecture should be, which was what his book focused on which is something we have analysed as a group above.

Part One - Starting the Drawings
Part One - Printing the Diagrams to Scale
Our first task was to print the diagrams we had been given in a scale that suited our needs, sounds easy? no! but once we had been taught a little about the software we were using it was great.
We scaled up and down to get the right sections of the diagrams in the right size, to do this you just open the document, type the command "MVIEW" to get them from "Model View" to "Paper View" and then select the scale you want from the tool section in the bottom right.
Then you type the PAN command and pan the diagram into the right section , then print. all as shown above.

Simon May
Hello, Im Simon, I am a student at Birmingham City University, studying for a BA in Architecture. I have been interested in Architecture ever since I bought my first DSLR camera. I started to use my camera to photograph interesting historical buildings and structures. This led me into exploring other forms of creativity, Painting, Drawing, sculpture and screen printing etc. |

Ryan Steed
I am 21 years old and I was originally suppose to be going to Norwich University of Arts but I had to move to the Midlands and was lucky enough to get a transfer to this university. I'm on this course because I've wanted to be an architect since I was seven, when I was driven through London by my dad and fell in love with the buildings. I will be architect and this university will help achieve my dream, I would describe my architecture signature to be futuristic and organic. This project was a nice start to my journey and I hope those who are reading this agree that my group and I have done a great job. |
